Tulum, View of the central palace complex
Tulum was a late Mayan trading center situated along the east-coast of the Yucatan peninsula. It is the only Mayan city that is directly on the ocean, having been sited on a limestone cliff above the seashore. The central deity of Tulum was Chac, the god of rain, here depicted as the descending god.
