MAYAN CITIES |
A large Classic Mayan site about 50 miles west of the modern city of Chetumal.
The city was settled as early as 200 A.D., but many of the large structures we can
see were built between the 5th and 8th centuries.
The architecture is grand and classical, highly articulated with sculptural corner
indents and curves at the angles of the pyramids, and the typical 7 tiered stepped
build-up to the temple on top.
