MAYAN CITIES |
A smaller site about 200 miles east of the modern city of Campeche, and near the larger
site of Becan, about 4 miles to the east. The site was settled as early as 200 A.D., but
the structures we see today were produced in the 5th to the 8th centuries in the typical,
ornate, highly decorative Chenes style of the western Yucatan.
The architecture is built up and articulated with rich sculptural, zoomorphic and mythical
motifs at the openings as well as at the angles of the buildings.
